Bama shifted the family to Turaiyur in 1964. As usual Parthasarayhy did not lend any hand in shifting the residence. The two ladies with help of locals in Erakudi packed and loaded the household items in a bullock cart and similarly unloaded things at Turaiyur. Parthasarathy stayed put in his rented house at Turaiyur whereas the family had hired another house. Bama also prefered it that way as she found it difficult to prevent conflicts betweeen her mother and Parthasarathy. Kamala was fuming like a Volcano, but controlled hereself in order to keep her daughter's married life.
The four years between 1964 and 1967 were very turbulent years for Bama and Kamala. It was an irony that ,despite his retrogate attitude towards women, Pathasarathy had a very creative mind and used to pen poems, articles and stories. He was associated with the Tamil Magazine - "Ezhuthalan" which was being published from Trichy.Encouraged by the illadvice of certain friends , he also made efforts to bring out his own magazine. The magazine - "SENKARUMBU" - came out and went on for few months. Parthasarathy could not sustain the Publishing as the money needed was huge against a meagre circulation. He wound up the magazine and ended up with a lot of unsold copies, photo blocks and other materials used in Printing and a huge debt. He was paying almost his entire salary towards interest and repayment. Bama still did not give up hope. She visited him daily in the evening along with their yougest child, made dinner for him.She would try to strike some conversation with him to get to know about his problems. He never discussed frankly and always said,"I don't care about money. It 's like my footwear." She would wake up early in the morning, cook food for him and then rush to her house to start her tutions which started at 6.30 in the morning. She never bothered about kids as they were in the safe custody of Kamala. The kids would cherish the few minutes she used to spend with them.
Bama wound up few debts of Parthasarathy with an intention to help him. But he did not consider it a big help and did not mend his ways also.New debts cropped up.Kamala smelt trouble and took Bama's finances into her hands. One day Parthasarathy visited the family and as usual for money. Kamala was standing behind the door as in those days women do not come in front of their groom. When he asked for money, Bama turned towards her mother and said,"Amma,he needs money." Kamala asked Bama to enquire what for.Obviously Pathasarthy got furious and shouted towards the door , "Who are you to question me? I am talking to my wife." Before Kamala could say something he slammed the door with his leg and bolted out. Kamala got injured mildly in her ankle. But Bama suffered a great injury in her heart.
This was the limit for Bama's tolerance. She lost her hope in redeeming him both from his debts and complex. Perhaps this was a problem for many working women of the first generation. Bama started focusing on her job, tutions and family and curtailed her visits to his dwelling place to once in a week. Parthasarathy could not satnd this. He started bullying her and beat her up frequently. One day he came to her house in a fit of rage. Bama rushed out of her house when she heard the scream of her son Gopal. He had been kicked by his father for playing in the sand.Bama merely asked,"why are you beating him? He is already weak." He started hitting her in the street. As one year had passed the residents of the street, knew about the family. Bama also had earned the title "HINDI TEACHER". ( Even now residents of Turaiyur call her "HINDI TEACHER".Nobody Knows her name.Bama's neighbour was a Farmer - Lakshmi. She was a bold woman and had steel hands of toilers. She came rushing to the scene and pushed Parthasarathy away. The baffled Parthasarathy looked up in disbelief. Lakshmi swore,"How dare you beat our teacher! If you do this next time you will return only with broken bones!". Parthasarathy sped away angrily and Bama and Kamala profusely thanked Lakshmi. Even now the family does not know what was the reason for his rage on that day.
