MAHATHMA GANDHI

Mahathma belongs to the entire world. we are playing an empty trumpet that he was born in our country. The most popular and at the same time the most misunderstood leader was Mahathma. When he returned to India after two decades of struggle in South Afrrica , Congress pulled him into its fold for the party's political ends. None of the Congress leaders including Jawahar and Patel followed his ideals once they were in power. Jawahar totally neglected Rural India and spearheaded rapid industrialisation. The gap in development between urban and rural can never will be fiiled. The pomp and luxury with whichJawahar conducted himself has nothing to do with Gandhi's simplicity. Patel also missed Gandhi's approach in including minorities into the main stream. With his tough administration Patel inadvertantly left a deep rooted hatred in the minds of minorities. This still remains a problem to India. Very few leaders like Acharya Vinoba and Acharya Kriplani and Jayaprakash Narain emulated Gandhian principles in their life.

We lost Mahathma to an assasin's bullets. But we never possessed any of his ideals.
