The story of a mother - Final Part

The years 2000 - 2005 were very excruciating years for Bama. Her husband became bedridden and he had to
do his daily chores only with the assistance of somebody. Their son Cheenu - the writer - who was living  near by was of some help in this regard. But he shifted residance in 2003 near his son's school and this help was withdrawn. Bama was pulling on with the help of her cousin Vasantha. At one stage Bama's health detoriated to such a level that she could not even walk a step. Her feet were completely damaged by the skin disease. Vasantha took care of both Bama and Parthasarathy in 2004 and 2005.Cheenu kept visiting them daily and provided them with a washing machine so that their job was made easy. Bama resisted this initially , but later realised that it was of great help. But Cheenu's efforts in providing a maid servant miserably failed. Both  Vasantha and Bama were old timers and were dead against engaging servants. This had it's own drawbacks. But  Cheenu could not do anything about it.

On 1 April,2005 Parthasarathy died of a massive heart attack after a brief hospitalisation. At that point of time the other two sons were away in Bombay and Delhi and flew to Trichy to perform final rites. Parthasarathy's funeral was well attended. His final rites were done in the fittest manner as per Bama's directions.

Cheenu raised the demand of Bama dispensing her seperate home now that father had passed away and she would be alone. But Bama again had a hesitation and kept postponing the proposal. Perhaps she was averse of living with others with her skin problem. She kept visting Cheenu's house for festivals. Her grandson kept visting her along with Cheenu
daily. Her skin condition also improved after getting treated at Appollo Hospitals, Chennai. After the relentless appeals
from son, daughter in law and grandson Bama has agreed to move with them. She also disposed off her house at Turaiyur thus  closing the options to goback to Turaiyur. Cheenu is buying a three bedroom apartment in Srirangam to provide exclusive space  for his mother. The grand reunion is waiting to happen in May / june 2008 with the best wishes of the ilanders.

Once my mother is with me I'll open a Blog Page for her.

With this I conclude the story of my mother and my heartfelt thanks to all ilanders who spent their valuable time on this blog.

My special thanks to Lucille,Divyani , Meenasundar and Krishnaswamy Narasimhan who were posting regular comments and encouraing  me to continue. It was a great experience writing the biography of an unsung heroine. I wish ilanders post the success stories of  many unsung heroes and heroines.
